Students often complain that they are not able to focus on the study. They try different ideas advised by others but nothing seems working.

The problem of focusing on study or on other constructive things is not limited to only students but adults and elders also.

When they start working on something important that requires serious concentration, they get bored, demotivated, and give up easily on the task after some time.

It is a challenge to stay focused on study for a longer duration of time and this is serious because it can hamper your studies. And you will probably get fewer numbers in exam results.

Not being able to concentrate for a longer period of time will reduce your productivity and efficiency.

In this article, though we will talk more about a focus on study, the same is true for every situation where you need to concentrate for a longer duration of time. For instance, your projects, your hustle, your office work, or your research.

Everyone is concerned and searching for the cause, why they are not able to focus on studies, and what can be done to tackle this problem.

When I think more about it and I have found a few things that will help you to concentrate on study for hours.

Exited?

Let’s dive deeper,

1.AVOID DISTRACTIONS.

Distractions around you are the reason why you are not able to concentrate.

We are surrounded with many distractions that shift our focus from study to other things.

For example, TV, mobile phone, video games, music player, and other electronic gadgets.

These habits are highly addictive once you started using a mobile phone, it will waste your half to one hour easily. The same goes for TV and video games.

When your mobile rings or vibrates while you are studying, you can’t control the impulse. You will pull out the phone and start checking the notification.

If you keep doing this for some time you will feel distracted, saturated, drained, and lazy.

You will probably procrastinate to start studying again. Because your mind got distracted toward pleasure things and now study looks boring.

You might be studying in a noisy place. e.g. Maybe a lot of people in your home, some mills or factories near your home producing a lot of noise.

Noise causes intermittent distraction in between studies and it becomes hard to stay focused for a long time.

Problems in your family like abusive parents, foster parents, unavailable parents, money crunches, etc. will make you tense and shift your focus away from study.

Family problem is a significant distraction that makes you drained mentally.

2. SAY NO TO MULTITASKING.

You being multitasking could be the reason why you can’t focus on studies.

Because you try to do multiple things at once and it causes the problem.

For instance, you are watching TV while studying, using a mobile phone in between or chit-chatting with others while studying.

You keep thinking about multiple things at the same time while study, it will be hard to concentrate.

This behavior will distribute your attention to multiple things. And because our brain can’t do more than one active thing at once, it becomes difficult to focus on one thing properly.

Also, our brain can’t switch focus really quickly, it takes time.

That’s why if you really want to focus on study stop multitasking.

Because of evolutionary instincts, our brain focuses on what we think important. Setting goals is nothing but signaling your brain what is important for you.

You must have a goal if you want to get serious about the study.

Set the short term and long term goals. For instance, short term goals like how many portions you have to finish in a day, week, or month. Or long term goals like how many potions you have to finish in six months or in a year.

Get yourself a long term goal first and then break it into small goals so that you will stay motivated and don’t feel burdened.

4.DOPAMINE DETOX.

Habits that give us pleasure and happiness attract us easily. This is because these habits stimulate the body to a secret a high quantity of dopamine in our body.

Habits such as watching TV, using mobile phones, electronic gadgets, surfing the internet, scrolling through social media, eating junk food, playing video games, gambling, drugs, and streaming platforms can make us habitual.

As Dopamine is a pleasure hormone, with high dopamine in our brain we feel ecstatic and overwhelmed.

Constructive things like study produce the less or normal quantity of dopamine, which means it doesn’t give that much pleasure.

If you are addicted to high dopamine surge you are likely to feel bored and unmotivated while studying in between these high dopaminergic habits and you start procrastinating and keep postponing the work. Hence it becomes difficult to focus on study.

Dopamine Detox may help you in this situation.

5 minutes break must be either constructive or relaxing. For example, grab a coffee, meditate, do breathing exercises, go for a short walk. Avoid unhealthy things like eating junk food, surfing the internet or social media, and watching TV. This will help your brain to relax and recharge.

If you remember something in the middle of the study, note it down on paper and do it later.

When you finish 30 minutes break repeat 25 minutes of work and 5-minute brake cycle again for four cycles.
